Collective Presents: Cruel and Unusual Works Inspired by Antonin Artaud |

| Cruel and Unusual features one-acts inspired by the work of French dramatist, thinker, and madman Antonin Artuad. Many plays encourage audience involvement. Interspersed between one-acts will be multi-media artists and musical acts, all an eclectic mix of experimental theater of a myriad of performance mediums. The festival includes the plays: “Gertrude Stein’s Penis” by Jeffrey Skinner (author Late Stars, A Guide to Forgetting; he is director of Creative Writing at University of Louisville), “Breath” by Al Lefcowitz (Professor Emeritus, Naval Academy and founder of the Washington Writer’s Center), “The Audience” by Maria Micheles (whose work as appeared at Actors Studio, EST, TNC), “Dream Play” by Les Hunter (staff theater critic for offoffonline.com), “A Long and Happy Marriage” by Will Cordeiro (recent productions include “Cake” at the Makor 10-Minute Play Festival), “Community Theater Interview with Pere Ubu” by Cornelius Chapman, “STRAY” by Elizabeth Stapp, and an excerpt from Artaud’s original work, “There is No More Firmament,” produced originally at the Alchemical theater, with Mary Kroph and Jessica Slote. Performance artists taking part in the festival include: Skrit Steak and the English Mufkins, Raise Plow, and Jessica Delfino. The Brooklyn Playwrights Spring Festival will perform at Siberia Bar (40th Street and 9th Avenue—look for the black door with a red light) on May 26 and June 2, from 8:00-11:00. and at Galapagos (70 North 6th Street) on June 9, 16, and 23. from 7:00-10:00.
