Dramatizing
Dante features the
Brooklyn Playwrights Collective whose last production was described by
NYTheatre.com as a "smart, sharp, and compelling evening of theatre…"
and the world premiere of 10 new one-acts with a humorous/political twist, about
contemporary infernos, purgatories and paradises, all inspired by Dante
Alighieri.
Chris Harcum
of NYTheatre.com wrote of BPC’s
production, Confronting Chekhov Festival
in 2008, “…Clearly, the Brooklyn Playwrights Collective has a talented stable
of writers…”
This year's festival offers opportunities to
catch an eclectic night of theatre by writers Alaina
Hammond, Phil Kaplan, C.J. Ehrlich, Jerry Polner,
Kate Bell, Maria Micheles, Marcus Haupt, Al Lefkowitz, and Peter Dizozza.
Some of this year's one-acts include: “A Salt on U.S. Soil,” by Alaina Hammond, “Dante in the Dark,” by Maria Micheles, “Florence, Farewell,” by Jerry Polner, “Ninth Circus of Hell,” by C.J. Ehrlich, “Living Will,” by Marcy Wallabout, “Seventh Circle, Second Ring,” by Kate Bell, “Marcus’ Inferno,” by Marcus Haupt, “Dante’s Inferno: The Motion Picture,” by Phil Kaplan, “The Afterdeath,” by Peter Dizozza.
The Brooklyn Playwrights Collective is a workshop and theatre
group of emerging playwrights from Brooklyn and Queens. They workshop
bi-weekly in and around the Fort Greene area. What unites this diverse group is their urge to create an
alternative to traditional
“theater-centric” events by incorporating other types of experimental
performance and shows onto the stage.
